I asked one of my oldest friends (and client) if he wanted to train with me instead of me coaching him that day. A quick “yeah man let’s do it” and we are warming up on a DB Incline Press. Fast forward 8 weeks and I have myself a fully committed training partner and I feel fucking fantastic. I am experiencing exercise highs that I haven't felt in years. I blooody love it.
Strength training is boring as out sometimes. Miserable day, cba to train, could really do with just going home and getting some house shit sorted. It’s so easy to pie off the gym as it’s boring. Orrrr you take it mega serious, probably too serious, and at times you just wish it was a bit more of a laugh and fun. None of this internal pressure to ‘be better than yesterday’ shite you often hear on social media.
Maybe you should just chill out, find a training partner and fucking enjoy it. Honestly, I can't explain how class i feel. I am training with one of my best pals, laughing about the old days, how old we are now, celebrating our kids being morons (mainly hospital trips or being arse holes) and just loving life. My problems are feeling less significant and I am viewing everything so much more positively. Honestly, it all comes from training with my pal.
If you relate to any of the above, get cracking on with people on the gym floor. Find out what they are training that day, ask to join in, arrange a training session. Genuinely, you will not regret it! Back in the day, I learned everything from training with different people. The gym floor wasn’t a place where every fucker had headphones on and hoods up. We were cracking on all the time, not taking it too serious, and still getting insane results. Bring back some old school, get a training partner and have a laugh!
